"Let there be no compulsion in religion because Truth stands out clear from Error." - (2:256)
During my schooling years, I didn't have many non-Muslim friends. But during National Service, I get to know a lot from Christian, Buddhism and Hinduism. Eventhough I wasn't used to the environment, we still became good friends. I did my prayers, and they did theirs but we still treat each other like brothers and sisters. There wasn't any conflicts despite the difference in beliefs.
Imagine, someone comes to you and say, "Hey, convert to my religion. Yours now are not good enough." What would your reaction be ? Pissed, mad, angry. I know. It's so disrespectful. But this is what happened. Some of our 'religious' Muslims, are doing that and had eventually led to arguments. Everyone understands that you're trying to be 'religious'. You're trying to spread the teachings. Unfortunately, that's not the way.
I have Muslim friends who go to church and learn Bible. I have Muslim friends who held forums and discussions with other religions but none of them had asked, "Jom masuk Islam nak ?" That's not how they do it. If you really want to invite them, learn how. Da'wah needs knowledge and courage. Not just courage alone without knowledge.
Remember, every act of a Muslim reflects our religion towards people. Give them respect, and they will give us the same. May Allah bless us all.
*To those who are celebrating Christmas, have a nice holiday.
